The organization’s Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, announced this at a meeting with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 19.
According to the press service of the President of Uzbekistan, the head of the UN “noted the scale of the goals and objectives of the new reform strategy of Uzbekistan and its full consonance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The parties discussed the prospects for expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN, primarily on the implementation of national objectives and goals in the field of sustainable development.
Currently, about 140 joint programs and projects are being implemented. Under the auspices of the UN, there is a Trust Fund for social support of the population of the Aral Sea region. Major international events are held jointly, in particular on issues of ensuring food security, tourism development, combating poverty and climate change.
Antonio Guterres emphasized the importance of the proposals and initiatives voiced by Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the session of the General Assembly for solving pressing global and regional problems.
As a result of the negotiations, an agreement was reached on the development of a “road map” in priority areas of deepening the partnership between Uzbekistan and the UN.
